Breaking the Silence around Sibling Sexual Abuse

Breaking the Silence around Sibling Sexual Abuse Podcast

When we share our stories, we are reminded of the humanity in each other. And when we take the time to understand each other’s stories, we become more forgiving, more empathetic and more inclusive.

I greatly respect Bruce and Denise Morcombe, founders of The Daniel Morcombe Foundation. If you don’t know their story, what happened to their young son and the investigations in the ensuing years, was something you might wish to read about via their website.

The Morcombes live and deliver their Keeping Kids Safe programs out of a hinterland town just 40 minutes down the highway from where I live. That’s where I went to record my first podcast episode since writing Resolve. The Travelling Journo and award-winning Nance Hoxton was my host. The National Education Manager at DMF, Beth McNamara, and so many of the people in her team made me feel so safe and welcome. It was wonderful to speak comfortably and openly about sibling sexual abuse with people who are committed to making change.

It is one year since Resolve was released as a paperback. That was on Amazon and through Ingram Spark, which distributes it across 15,000+ online and brick-and-mortar bookstores internationally. Aside from that, the Kindle eBook went live at the same time, and a month later, I recorded the audiobook. It isn’t only with Audible, but across 50 audiobook online stores. I’m never going to get to know who or how many people have read Resolve, and I don’t need to. I know that people are reading it and buying extra copies to share with their teammates. I was so pleased to hear that LifeLine bought half a dozen copies to share around.

I just want it to land in the right pairs of hands, have it start conversations and do some good.

This podcast is produced by Nance Haxton with production assistance from Michael Adams. To get in touch with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation about any of the information shared in this podcast, go to danielmorcombe.com.au/bright-futures/ or phone 1300 326 435
When I said Resolve is a conversation starter, I meant I’m willing to facilitate or even participate in such conversations.

If you or anyone you know has a podcast, radio show, or event coming up think of me.

Please let me know if you would like me to facilitate online Zoom discussions centred on what I’ve shared in Resolve.

I have recorded one other podcast, which was nerve-wracking and became a practice session because it got lost in a computer meltdown. I’m still hopeful that we can re-record it with EmpowerSurvivors to empower survivors. I’ll keep you posted on that!

Take care of yourself this week.

Shared with love,

Alice Perle
