Resolve, what I have learned

Since 2023, this blog has held regular reflections, early journal notes and context around Resolve and sibling sexual abuse. New writing is now continuing on Substack, where longer reflections can…

    Weight is Never the Problem

    8 April 2024 /

In Resolve, I speak of hypnotherapy I sought out because I wanted to do something about the weight I had accumulated at one point in my life journey! I approached that as a wishful thinking exercise, hopeful that whatever hypnotherapy did, it would make me never be overweight again—like Magic. I clearly hadn’t had hypnosis before then, and now I have certification as a hypnotherapist myself, so I do have a much greater understanding of how these things work. Back then, I had no idea! I went to my first session with weight being our topic. Very quickly, our consultation turned to my history of sibling sexual abuse. Then, over…

    Understanding Sibling Sexual Abuse

    1 April 2024 /

Sibling sexual abuse is a prevalent yet often overlooked form of trauma that occurs within many families. The pervasive silence surrounding this issue perpetuates its hidden nature, leaving survivors to navigate the aftermath alone. Review of Social and Therapeutic Beliefs In my research and reading, I reviewed reports, research papers, texts and blogs on the subject of ‘incest’ and then what I could find on ‘sibling sexual abuse’. Mostly, it was lumped in under the heading of ‘childhood sexual abuse’, and thankfully, now that is changing. Sibling sexual abuse is having its…

Healing from Within: Dr Gabor Maté’s 7 A’s of Healing

    25 March 2024 /

In my journey of healing from sibling sexual abuse and reclaiming my voice, I stumbled upon Dr Gabor Maté’s profound insights in his book “When the Body Says No – the cost of hidden stress.” His concept of the 7 A’s of Healing resonated deeply with me, as it perfectly mirrored the stages I traversed in my own recovery process. Acceptance: The first step towards healing is acknowledging the reality of our past experiences with compassion. By accepting how things were back then, we pave the way for a more compassionate relationship with ourselves. Awareness: Reclaiming our capacity for emotional truth recognition is crucial. By embracing both the good and…
